The Benefits Of Faith Based Organizations

Hey ya go...

http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/12/30/virginity.pledges/index.html

It turns out....Teens like to have sex.

It turns out....People lie about things.

You and I might not think that is news, but to the born-again wack jobs in our government and elsewhere this was probably a real shocker.

Everyone knew this whole "abstinence only" sex ed thing was / is such a total farce.

But that didn't prevent the Bush administration from embracing it wholesale, despite ample warnings from "elistist" scientists who had actually studied human behavior. What could those educated people actually know about education? Yet another example of his stunning incompetence (as if we need any) , he preferred to listen to the religious leaders and dedicate increasingly rare education resources on this useless program.
At best abstinence only sex ed is useless, at worst it is misleading and dangerous.

Educators are tasked with teaching our youth. What is the point of teaching children things that are untrue?

But that is how religious people often feel about the truth.
They treat it like a threat.

The Nati For X-Mas

We blew out of town just in time.

The snow was falling and flights all around us were being cancelled.

We had to wait 2 hours on the plane for de-icer.

An hour or so later 80+ passengers on an Alaska Airlines jet going through a similar de-icing process would end up overcome by fumes and be sent to the hospital with chemical burns.

It is serious stuff, this travel thing.

We hung out in Cincy doing the family thing.

We ate at Ambar Indian.

Seattle has yet to get Indian food right.

We also ate at Jim's favorite place: LuLu's Noodles.
It is still in the same location, with the same art on the walls, the same menu.
The only way LuLu's could be better is if they served alcohol.....in Seattle....

The Benefits Of Faith Based Organizations

Yep. Gotta love that all-loving, all-inclusive christian religion thing...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7796663.stm

Apparently the "threat" of homosexuality is as dangerous as global warming.
Let's run the numbers shall we:

Estimated number of people (in millions) who could die in the coming decades due to crop failures attributed to climate change:300

Estimated number of people (in millions) who will have their lives directly ended in the coming decades by marauding packs of psycho/homos:0

Estimated value of real estate lost (in trillions) as the ice caps melt and coastal cities are flooded:500

Estimated value of real estate lost (in trillions) due to marauding packs of pyro-homo-sexuals:0

hmmm.
These numbers don't seem to be adding up.
I'm sure it is something wrong with my calculations and not the pope's.
After all, I just pulled this "data" out of my ass...and the pope???

In other news:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7043056.stm

A hilarious read to be sure, containing this gem of a line:
"I said I was homosexual in order to unmask those who really are."

Wow, you sure are sneaky!
Does the Vatican often send high ranking officials out on undercover homo-outing missions?
Who knew?

...and on a personal note:
It has been widely reported that attendance at churches all across the nation has been drastically increasing as the current economic crisis plays out.
It should come as a surprise to no one that the people who run these establishments are overjoyed.
It is my opinion that anyone who gets psyched about an increase in desperation and misery in their fellow man is not the kind of person who should be in charge of anything.

Okay, then. It really did snow.

So, it actually started snowing yesterday, and now the city is an ice rink. Since there's no infrastructure to handle snow and ice, we've been holed in for a couple days and are planning to be holed in until it warms up on Monday.

Sure is pretty though.

Foggy Notion Thanksgiving Weekend

One foggy morning a couple weeks back Jim decided to use Google to find the foggiest location in the US.

Turns out out it is just down the I-5 at Cape Disappointment, Washington.

Barb booked a room at the Inn At Discovery Coast and away we went.

It was foggy the majority of the time we were there, much to JimnBarb's delight.

Our inn was actually in a town called Long Beach a couple miles north of Cape Disappointment.

I don't know about the claim made in this sign, but the beach sure seemed long to me.

Cape Disappointment is one of the most dangerous coasts in North America for shipping.

Here is psychedelic piece of driftwood.

It was nice.
I love hanging out in touristy places out of tourist season.
The abandoned carnival atmosphere gives me a giddy feeling in my stomach.

There were plenty of bars and place to eat so Jim was happy.

In back of the Inn, between our room and the beach, some students had unearthed and reassembled a whale skeleton which the town keeps illuminated all night.

It is totally creepy.

The second night we were there, we ate at some place and Barb had fish with popcorn on top.

That was strange.
When we got home, Seattle was completely encased in fog.
